In a major development for one of Bollywood’s most enduring couples, Sunita Ahuja has officially withdrawn the divorce petition she previously filed against actor Govinda. The couple, who tied the knot in 1987, have been the subject of intense media scrutiny over the past two years. Confirming the news, Govinda’s manager, Shashi Sinha, stated that Sunita visited the Bandra Family Court on Wednesday specifically to retract the legal filing initiated back in December 2024.
Sunita was accompanied to the court by their son, Yashvardhan Ahuja. The atmosphere outside the premises was tense as the duo faced a barrage of paparazzi. Yashvardhan appeared visibly frustrated, urging the photographers to give them space and stop harassing his mother. When pressed by the media about the proceedings inside, Yashvardhan curtly replied, “Nothing.” Sunita, opting for a cryptic response, sarcastically remarked that they were simply there to “celebrate a birthday.”
The marital strain had become public knowledge following reports of the divorce petition, which allegedly cited grounds including cruelty and desertion. Speculation surrounding the couple intensified after Govinda was spotted at an airport with his ‘Rupa’ co-star, Komal Rani Swarnkar. Sunita had previously expressed strong displeasure regarding the association, even making headlines for labeling Govinda a ‘sugar daddy’ and criticizing the actress’s fashion choices. Despite the controversy, Govinda has consistently maintained that his relationship with his co-star is strictly professional, and no evidence of an affair has ever been substantiated.
Govinda and Sunita share two children, daughter Tina Ahuja and son Yashvardhan. Tina, also known as Narmada, made her Bollywood debut in 2015 with ‘Second Hand Husband’, while Yashvardhan is currently preparing for his own foray into the film industry. As of now, the withdrawal of the petition marks a significant shift in the public narrative surrounding the couple’s long-standing marriage.
