Biswajit Chatterjee reflects on his controversial kissing scene with Rekha in Do Shikari

Veteran actor Biswajit Chatterjee is looking back at the cinematic landscape of the late 70s, specifically addressing the much-discussed kissing scene he shared with Rekha in the 1979 film Do Shikari. Speaking about the evolution of on-screen intimacy, the actor noted that the standards for what is considered shocking have shifted dramatically over the decades. He admitted that while the scene sparked controversy at the time, it holds little weight in the current era of filmmaking, where intimate sequences have become commonplace. Chatterjee expressed genuine surprise at the level of boldness seen in modern bedroom scenes, contrasting them with the more restricted environment of his own acting days.

Beyond his past projects, the seasoned actor highlighted his enduring passion for the theatrical experience. Despite his decades in the industry, Chatterjee remains an avid moviegoer who prefers catching the latest releases on the big screen rather than at home. He cited blockbuster hits like Animal, Kalki 2898 AD, RRR, and the Baahubali franchise as examples of films that demand a theatre visit, noting that he continues to watch these productions as a student of cinema, always looking to learn from modern storytelling techniques.

Addressing the lingering questions about his relationship with Rekha following the Do Shikari controversy, Chatterjee confirmed that the two maintained a professional bond. He revealed that they eventually reunited on screen when he cast her in a project he produced and directed. While the kissing scene remains a frequent topic of discussion in retrospectives about intimacy in Indian cinema, the veteran actor seems unfazed by the ongoing chatter. He acknowledged that controversy is simply an inevitable part of the industry, serving as a way for public discourse to evolve and pass the time. The film Do Shikari, which also starred Vinod Khanna and Amjad Khan, continues to be remembered for this iconic moment that challenged the norms of its time.

In a recent conversation, the legendary star opened up about the professional landscape of his time, describing the camaraderie among actors as a form of healthy competition. While the industry was fiercely competitive, Chatterjee noted that there was a genuine sense of mutual respect, with actors pushing each other to deliver better performances while openly appreciating their peers’ craft.

The actor shared a particularly charming anecdote from his days shooting at Filmistan Studios, back when vanity vans were non-existent and infrastructure was far simpler. In a surprising revelation, Chatterjee has confirmed that the film features the late legendary actor Dharmendra in his final big-screen role. While many previously believed the film Ikkis would be the star’s swan song, Chatterjee insists that his project holds the true title of being the veteran actor’s last work, where he portrays the iconic freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai.

Chatterjee shared an emotional behind-the-scenes account of how he confirmed this detail with the Deol family. Following Dharmendra’s passing, he met with Bobby Deol and his son, Aryaman Deol. When the young man was initially surprised, Bobby Deol stepped in to confirm the news, acknowledging that he had been present when Chatterjee first narrated the script to his father. The director noted that while Dharmendra was initially hesitant to step back in front of the camera, he was eventually swayed by the patriotic nature of the role.

According to Chatterjee, Dharmendra was so dedicated to the role of the ‘Punjab Kesari’ that he insisted on performing his own stunts, refusing the help of a body double. The filmmaker praised the veteran’s enthusiasm, noting that his commitment inspired the entire crew. While the film also reportedly features Jackie Shroff, a formal release date for the project has yet to be announced.

Dharmendra, who passed away on November 24, 2025, at the age of 89, left behind an unparalleled legacy spanning over six decades. Biswajit Chatterjee and Dharmendra previously shared the screen back in 1975 for the film Kahtey Hain Mujhko Raja, making this final collaboration a significant milestone in Indian cinema history.

  • Court rejects plea to summon Jacqueline Fernandez in Sukesh Chandrasekhar extortion case

Court rejects plea to summon Jacqueline Fernandez in Sukesh Chandrasekhar extortion case

The legal drama surrounding the Rs 200 crore extortion case involving conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar has seen a fresh development. A Delhi court has dismissed an application that sought to summon Bollywood actor Jacqueline Fernandez and Leepakshi Ellawadi as additional accused in the MCOCA case. Special Judge Gagandeep Singh, while presiding over the Rouse Avenue court, ruled that there were no sufficient grounds to invoke Section 319 of the CrPC to add them to the list of accused at this stage.

The application was moved by Navas Kakkat, an alleged close aide of Sukesh who was previously deported from the UAE. Kakkat’s legal team argued that as someone accused of managing and transferring the proceeds of crime, he was merely following instructions to facilitate payments for gifts and travel for several celebrities. His counsel contended that if he is being held responsible for handling these funds, then the recipients—specifically Fernandez and Ellawadi—should also be held accountable as beneficiaries of the alleged crime.

However, the court found the arguments insufficient. Judge Singh noted that the applicant’s case relied heavily on the statements of co-accused Pinki Irani. The court observed that even if the confessions provided were taken as entirely true, they did not establish a clear role for the beneficiaries in the organized crime syndicate’s operations. The prosecution, led by Special Public Prosecutor Akhand Pratap Singh, maintained that the matter had already been addressed during the framing of charges and that the application was not maintainable.

While Jacqueline Fernandez remains a witness in the MCOCA case, she continues to be an accused in the separate money laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate. The court’s latest dismissal brings a temporary halt to the attempt to expand the list of accused in the ongoing MCOCA proceedings, keeping the focus strictly on the individuals currently facing trial.
